KLUB MEMBER RECEIVES
RECOGNITION
We now have a recognized international carver among us: Travis
Wick received word that his entry into the Ward World
Championship Wildfowl Competition in Ocean City, Maryland took
3rd place in the songbird category.
CONGRATULATIONS, Travis!
Treasure 's Report:
Vivian Wendorf gave the Treasurer's Report in place of Harvery
who was Ill. A preliminary financial report was given regarding the
show income and expenses. There were 100 less paid attendees
this year than last year and it appears that the overall income was
only $4.47 less than the previous year. This should be an
indication to us that there is interest in and a reputation for the
Kettle Karvers Klub.
Meeting Minutes:
The meeting was called to order by president Darrell Abston.
Three dear friends joined us and it was so good to see them
again. They are: Diana Witt, Steve King and Bill Wright. Welcome
and come again!
Library Report:
Librarian Lori Jarosh purchased six new books for the club:
Architectural Carving
Carving Gargoyles
Hand Preparation-Male Sample
Relief Carving Wood Spirits
Carousel Horse Carving
Carve Your Own Totem Pole.
Sunshine:
Mary reported that a card was sent out to Frank Lohr wishing him
a speedy recovery. Our wishes came true because Frank was at
the meeting looking very well.
SHOW REPORT:
Neal Lorenz extended a huge “Thank You” to all for their work and
contribution to the show. Special thanks went to Bob Lawrence
who carved the “Best of Show” plate which was awarded to Don
Welti. Recognition was also given to the set-up crew, the judges,
Ron Feld for the mirror used in the demos, those who worked at
the registration and raffle tables and our photographer, Phil Schils.
Our Featured Carver, Phil Hueniink, had a wonderful display of his
various carvings which caught the eye of many visitors.
Comment was made that perhaps the “Kids Carve” should occur in
the morning hours of the show instead of the afternoon as that
seemed to be the time that most of the children were present.
There were 25 items donated for the raffle. Vivian Wendorf
wondered if the raffle could also consist of non carved items
which would offer something a little different to those who enjoy
other craft talent as well.
Other items discussed was that more coffee was needed for the
workers. It was decided that coffee will be available throughout the
day. There was an admission/monitoring problem in that it
appeared that people were getting into the show via the food
vendor's line without paying admission to the show. This will be
addressed at the next show's set-up plan.
Pictures from the show can be seen on our website :www.

ARTISTRY IN WOOD SHOW 2010
Next year's show is scheduled for April 24, 2010. This is also the
20th anniversry show for us. It was suggested that we do it up
“really big”. So get your thinking caps on! The Appleton show is
also scheduled on this date.
A very nice Thank You was received form Lori Gilbertson
regarding her husband Wayne's memorial recognition for the “Kids
Carve”
It seems Pam Moir is the official replacement for Mary Noordyk
when it comes to winning things. Pam was unable to be at the
meeting but sent the message that she appreciated winning TWO
canes in the raffle! One of which will be going to her
granddaughter.
The May 5th Saturday carve is cancelled

Start your carving NOW!! The FOT committee is always most
impressed with our tree. Let's not let them down this year.
Sy Regan received a letter from Robert Larson who is seeking a
representative to sell carving tools in this area. Talk to Sy if
interested.
The basket we donated to the Cancer Care fundraiser brought in
$150 for them. It's to our credit that we as a club get involved with
these fundraising events. Let us not lose sight of how we are able
to give to others through our gifts and talents.
On May 30-31 Camp Anokijig is having an Open House and
offered to have space for us to display or sell our carvings. If
interested, contact: Jim Sherer at 893-0782.
