NOTE NEW MEETING TIME

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
by Don Lorier

Thank you Phil Schils for doing a fantastic job during 2011. Thank you also to outgoing
board members Frank Lohr and Matt DeTroye.

I took the job of President because of the “team” that was already in place, so thank you to
Richard, Alice, Dianna, Mary, Lori, Judy, and Aaron. I also look forward to working with new
board members Larry and Jim.

Thank you for the opportunity to once again serve as your President.

MEETING MINUTES
by Alice Prahl

The meeting was called to order by President Philip Schils at 6 pm. Phil thanked the
members for a good year and introduced the newly-elected President, Don Lorier. He also
introduced the new board members Larry Lienau and Jim Roeder. He then re-introduced the
remaining officers, Richard Young as VP, Alice Prahl as Secretary, and Dianna Witt as
Treasurer. Phil turned the meeting over to Don.

Don thanked Phil, we enjoyed our meal, and the meeting resumed after the meal. First off,
door prize numbers were drawn and winners chose their prize. Everyone won door prizes.
There was a great variety of things to choose from. Thanks to the "shopping" committee--
Maureen and Dianna.

Display Cabinet. The glass and locks for the cabinets at the Generations Center are
installed.  Thanks to Willie Van Sluys for getting the project completed.

Saturday Carve.  A Saturday carve was scheduled for January 7 at Generations Craft Room
at 9 am. Bring your own project this month.

Saturday Carve Committee. Don asked for a volunteer to head up all Saturday carves.
A committee volunteered to take on this duty including Darrell Abston, Sandy Doebert,
Pam Moir, and Helen Williamson.

Canes. Don Lorier cut blocks and asked members to start carving them. We will be doing
three canes for Artistry in Wood with themes of Seasons, Wisconsin, and Variety. A fourth
cane will be donated to the Cancer Fundraiser. Top and bottoms for the canes will be carved
by Aaron Lippert, Neil Coulthurst, Gene Ninedorf, Don Lorier, and Phil Schils. Judy Larson
has more blocks if you need them, and blocks will be available at the next meeting. Bring
completed blocks to the next meeting; the Cancer Fundraiser cane must be completed in
March.

Most Improved Carver. Al Herwig
received the plaque from Phil
Huenink. His name has been
engraved on the plaque, and he
will enjoy it for the next year.

Meeting Start Time Changing.
Don asked what we thought about
the idea of starting meetings at
6:30 pm. It works out better for
Generations if we are out of the
building a little earlier. Richard Young
made a motion to change the meeting
start time to 6:30 and Darrell Abston  seconded the motion. The membership approved
moving the starting time to 6:30 pm starting with the February meeting.

Summer Picnic Location. Don advised that Generations will be developing a park area that
should be ready before our August picnic. He suggested we change the location since the
Generations chef could provide the meal, and we could also save the park fee previously
paid. Richard Young made the motion to move the picnic location to Generations and Phil
Schils seconded the motion. The majority of the membership agreed to the change of
location.

Christmas Fundraiser. Very few  donated ornaments placed on the tree at Generations
were sold. The proceeds of the sale would have gone directly to Generations. Martha Laning
has an idea for next Christmas of having completely decorated trees up for auction during a
fundraiser party. We discussed decorating a larger tree with hand carved ornaments and
donating the tree to Generations for this fundraiser. The 2011 unsold ornaments could also
be used.

July Meeting. Now that we are not holding our meetings in the school cafeteria, we could
have a July meeting. We will discuss this further at a future meeting.

Community Education Carving Class. Darrell Abston mentioned that he and Pam Moir will
be teaching another carving class beginning on January 24 from 6-9 pm.

The meeting was adjourned by President Don Lorier.
