2011 Artistry in Wood
Best of show was
awarded to Greg
Wirtz of Wisconsin
Rapids for his
cowboy caricature.
We are very pleased to announce that show attendees chose the table of Al Herwig of Sheboygan as the Peoples Choice.

Attendees were greeted by a friendly member of our club and, after entering the
auditorium, were amazed by the wide array of carvings at the tables. Richard Young
demonstrated carving drapery folds on the human figure and
Herman Sporleder gave a painting demonstration.
The Wayne Gilbertson Memorial youth carve was well-received
and enjoyed by all those participating.
Paul Tetzlaff of Fond du Lac was our Featured Carver. Paul
started carving in 1986, although he carved duck decoys as a
child with his dad. He basically taught himself using books
and magazines. Paul carves mostly birds and decoys.

He has competed in and won
numerous competitions around
the country. Competitions Paul
has entered are The Ward World
Carving Competition at Ocean City,
MD; North American in Novi, MI;
Northern Nations in Bloomington,
MN; Dremel-D.U. Masters
competitions in Racine, WI; and
Grand Canyon competitions in
Phoenix, Arizona as well as others
in Texas, Alabama, and Florida.
Paul stopped competing in 1998.
Paul teaches carving to a group at
the Fond du Lac Senior Center.
Dave Bartels of Clintonville
delighted the crowds outside the
his chainsaw carving.
The Artistry in Wood Best of Show
award was carved by Bob Lawrence.
A raffle was held with individual member-donated items and items created by
combining member donations. Each year members carve cane blocks that are
assembled by Don Lorier into the canes that are raffled. For 2011, members
donated Christmas ornaments that Neil Lorenz used to decorate wreaths.
